Athletes Serving Athletes

Sharing

Athletes Serving Athletes (ASA) began in 2007 with a group of motivated, volunteer athletes who wanted to use their abilities to support individuals living with disabilities who are interested in participating in racing in mainstream running events (ASA Athletes).

During this running season, I will be running several races as a  "wingman" - i.e., someone who lends his/her heart and legs to empower an ASA Athlete to cross the finish line.  These ASA Athletes are living with little to no mobility, but whose hearts hold the desire to race in mainstream running events. Each of these ASA Athletes is supported by his or her own unique WingMan Team.  To see these ASA Athletes in action, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TdaxgUwi3c.

With strong leadership and dedicated wingmen, donors and volunteers, sponsors and partners, ASA continues to empower ASA Athletes living with disabilities to train and compete in over 60 running and triathlon events per year.  ASA is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity funded entirely by private donors, corporate sponsors, and granting organizations. Your contributions are tax-deductible

“I never realized how life-giving acting as another person’s legs could be. To experience a short period of life laughing, competing, and pushing the limits with [an ASA Athlete] helped me see again that one of life’s greatest treasures is the treasure of helping people go places they have never gone or may never get to go. In doing so I was taken to new places of joy and hope myself…I can’t wait to do this again. I may have been [an ASA Athlete's] legs for a race, but he is my inspiration for taking risks that make life so meaningful”.
