I hope you can make it out for the walk in remembrance of my dad, Bob Garry. Please bring your friends. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Bob Garry was a caring teacher, friend, husband and family man. He will always be remembered as the nice guy who loved to sing even off pitch. He was a teacher in Southington, CT for 35 years. He shared his love of mathematics with his students at John F. Kennedy Middle School and Southington High School. Students still remember him today for his love of teaching and the excitement he brought to the classroom. He was both a boys and girls tennis coach for the high school team, inspiring students to have great sportsmanship on and off the court. After retiring from teaching he started his own masonry business, G&T Masonry LLC. He enjoyed building pillars for the schools in Southington and helping the community.
Anyone who knew him loved his spirit. He lived by his own motto “it’s nice to be nice”. No matter where he went he befriended anyone around him whether it was at the grocery store or gas station. He wanted to spread his happiness and kindness to others. Bob Garry believed that you should always be yourself and he was one of a kind. He was an inspirational man who loved life. He passed away unexpectedly in June 2009 however we can be assured he enjoyed the life he lived and left his mark on the world. Everyone was a better person for having known him. The memorial campaign in his honor is to help raise funds for the Southington High School Cares program which helps students and families in the community. This organization truly exemplifies how he lived his life because he would have given anything to anyone in need. SHS Cares provides for students and families with grocery gift cards, new backpacks, and school dues. This is exactly the “nice” act of kindness that Bob Garry would do every day of his life.
